The Relationship of Depression and Life Satisfaction on Male Alcoholics Exploring on the Roles of Family Function and Family Support

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of depression, family function, family support on life satisfaction and the relationship of this factors in male alcoholics. The sample consisted of 215 inpatient alcoholics and collected data were analyzed using structural equation models. The major findings were as follows. First, family function mediated the effect of depression on life satisfaction in male alcoholics. Second, depression mediated the effect of family support on life
satisfaction. Third, influential factors that depression, family function, family support, on life satisfaction were including the path model is significant and all path of path model is significant. These findings suggest that the roles of the depression
and family factors on life satisfaction in alcoholics, and that the intervention of depression is needed and family function, family support could be utilized as therapeutic mechanisms in treatment and rehabilitation programs for alcoholism.
Study implications were discussed in terms of ways of improving family function and family support for alcoholics.
